MOSOLF Introduces its First CNG Truck for Automobile Transports

Kirchheim/Teck, 13 October 2020 – The MOSOLF Group has been testing its first truck with a CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) drive and Kässbohrer body for automobile transport since September 2020. The vehicle from the Scania marque will be used for local transport at the company's site in Ketzin, Brandenburg. The CNG truck was developed especially for MOSOLF to meet the necessary specifications for car transporters.

In particular, the low frame, which is absolutely crucial for car transporters, has until now been the greatest challenge when selecting a suitable CNG vehicle for automotive logistics, and this specially adapted model only now makes it possible for MOSOLF to employ one. According to the manufacturer CO2,nitrogen oxide, and particulate matter emission values are lower for gas engines than for conventional diesel engines. The reduction in CO2 is at least 20 percent and even as high as 100 percent when using bio-methane. Engine noise is also reduced.

“Our goal is to develop our fleet in a sustainable and future-oriented manner. To this end, we are trying out possible alternatives and testing their practical suitability for our purposes,” says Egon Christ, Managing Director of MOSOLF Transport Solutions GmbH and head of the “MOSOLF Fleet 2021” project. “Besides the environmental aspects, the criteria for these tests are the economic efficiency of the alternative drives as well as their handling, range and reliability. But external factors such as filling station network density must also be right.”

The new CNG vehicle is equipped with four gas tanks and various driver assistance systems for improved road safety. In addition to familiar systems such as the driver attention support or emergency brake assistant, MOSOLF has also had the vehicle fitted with a turn-off assistant. This supports the driver when turning right in order to avoid accidents because of the blind spot. The purchase of the gas-powered truck was subsidized by the state in accordance with the “Subsidy Directive for Energy-Efficient and/or Low CO2 Trucks.”

The MOSOLF fleet already complies almost exclusively with the modern Euro 6 standard. The automobile logistics company also uses long trucks as part of a shuttle service between Zuffenhausen and Kornwestheim. In addition to modern drive units, the long truck also increases productivity and thus reduces CO2 emissions per transported unit.
